Our vehicles are filled with several different types of fluids and sometimes they manage to escape their rightful places and cause a bit of concern to the driver. If you see that your vehicle has a fluid leak chances are you should be able to top it up and continue driving safely. However, the odd time these fluid leaks can be dangerous and need immediate attention. There are two determining factors that help you decide whether or not you should take your car in to be serviced – how big the leak is and what is leaking.

When Ford announced they would be changing their F-Series trucks to use aluminium bodies, people were told the price of service would increase. Partially due to aluminium being a pricier material, but also due to the fact that mechanics simply weren’t yet trained on dealing with aluminium. Now that electric cars are gaining more traction than ever before, people are starting to wonder the same thing. Will switching to an electric car repair be more expensive, since experts in repairs are fewer?
Here at Gary’s Automotive, we take pride in offering a wide range of automotive services. For the services we don’t offer, we’re here to offer as much information and support as possible.

Before we get started it’s important to keep in mind this is an opinion. Taking a taxi is a great way to get around the City of Ottawa. Right now though, the city is caught in a sort of a transition between proven ways and new ideas.
Getting around Ottawa can be a bit of a hassle, and for those that don’t own a vehicle it can be even more time consuming. I have lost count of the times a bus has either been late, early, or just plain absent. Getting a cab from the city’s west end to the market on a friday night can quickly get expensive, and with many people opting to use the service the wait times can grow long. Neither system is perfect, which leaves plenty of room for competition. When that competition shows up and starts becoming more popular, should it be outlawed?
From log cabins built by beavers and free healthcare, to strong beer mixed with maple syrup, everyday is a great day to be Canadian. On July 1st, 1867 Queen Elizabeth herself came to Canada, and was greeted by lumberjacks riding on moose serving poutine. After being serenaded by Rush, we were immediately declared a sovereign nation and promptly apologized to The Queen for leaving. Ever since then, this great nation of ours has grown into a world superpower of kindness and peace. This great country of ours is also blessed in that we are the second largest country on earth. All that space means a lot of driving, and Canada certainly is a great place to see by car.
7 Reasons Why Canadian Driving Is The Best In The World
Take a look around, and you’ll quickly see why. Many people claim that the American Interstate System is a modern wonder of the world, but on this day it’s important to remember that we went to war with them once and they lost, so who cares. CANADA #1!
Before we get started it’s important to note that with the increases in driving done over the summer, ALL services are must haves for both safety and economy. A car that is ready to tackle anything the open road can throw at it is much easier to maintain and will save you more in the long run.
A wheel alignment is so important because not only can improperly aligned wheels be racking up the costs for you, they can also put you in danger. With some advice and service from Gary’s Automotive, summer driving can be a breeze.
Schools almost out, and the season of long weekends and road trips is upon us. We’ve already covered how to stock your car, and where to go, so now we need to think of how to do that safely. Statistically, you are more likely to be involved in a car accident in the summer than in the winter, due to more drivers on the road and greater speeds. With some simple advice, staying safe on the roads can go a long way to making sure that your summer is enjoyable.
What To Remember For Summer Vehicle Safety
Ottawa is, to put it nicely, “blessed with vivid seasons”, meaning the summers are sticky hot and the winters are biting cold. The main reason that summer can be dangerous is because of the increase in drivers and increased speed. In winter, very few people are planning long road trips at highway speeds. That’s why one of the most crucial things to remember is to watch your speed and distractions. This is good advice for any time of year, but is easy to forget come the summer. The two big weather conditions you’ll see come summer are +40° temperatures and heavy rains. Both come with their own unique driving conditions.
While we don’t doubt that all the drivers reading the Gary’s Automotive blog are skilled experts, there will come a time when you slip up, and someone will notice. Getting a traffic ticket can be a huge burden, both to your finances and to your record. Gary’s Automotive is here to help ensure that you are armed with the knowledge it takes to get through the process of a fighting traffic ticket, either by challenging it or by paying it.
Fight or Flight
If you choose to simply pay your ticket, then the process will be explained to you. Many people think that paying a simple traffic ticket is the more responsible choice, since it keeps the already over worked court systems free from dealing with minor charges, and it allows you to take responsibility for your actions. This may be the case, but some would also argue that many infractions and fines are simply put in place to be a revenue stream for the Government. In many cases, the most common piece of advice is to fight the ticket no matter what. There are a number of ways this is possible. Gary’s is here to help you separate fact from fiction in order to help you know your rights as a citizen.
For the true car fan, nothing beats the roar of an engine or the sounds of a turbo firing up. For the more casual driver, silence is normally preferred as this means nothing is wrong with the car. Next to a visual diagnosis, listening to car sounds is one of the easiest ways to spot something wrong. Unfortunately, listening also isn’t an exact science, so saying you hear a clunking coming from your vehicle can mean a number of different issues.
Here at Gary’s Automotive Ottawa, we’re experts in all things car, including those unusual car sounds coming from under the hood. Learn more about the sounds your vehicle is making and when you should come see our team of mechanics.
Summer is close to coming to an end which means it’s time to get out on the open road and have some fun. One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to experience Canada and beyond is by planning a summer road trip. We’ve covered what you should keep in your car for winter, now let’s take a look at some tips for driving during the summer months and some great places to visit in the Ottawa area.
Gary’s Automotive recently had the privilege of attending the 3rd annual Ottawa Autorama. The Ottawa Autorama is a showcase of classic restored and custom vehicles both old and new. The cars themselves are quite interesting, with models ranging from moonshiners to Bond cars, monster trucks to street racers, and everything in between. If you’re a fan of classic or custom cars, then the Ottawa Autorama can’t be missed!
The Classic Cars
One of the main draws at the Ottawa Autorama is the incredible lineup of classic cars. The vintage muscle cars, trucks, and other vehicles have all be carefully maintained and resorted to look like they just rolled off the factory floor. Modern Chargers and Camaros try, but they just can’t beat a classic.
When the movie Cars came out in 2006 it had a major error. An error that literally made the events of the Back To The Future trilogy more believable than any plot contained in Cars. What was it that the geniuses at Pixar overlooked?
Cars have faces, and THE HEADLIGHTS ARE THE EYES. NOT THE WINDSHIELD.
Alas, we’ve managed to get the pitchforks put away, and the great “windshield eyes” riots have finally calmed down. The all-star cast of Cars made me think of what other celebrities could appear in the films no doubt 15 series run, so I’ve compiled a quick list of celebrities that look like cars.
Have you ever been cleaning around the house, and almost hit your head on a shelf? Almost poked your eye on plant or something else sticking out? For a few seconds after the fact, you smile and think “boy that was close” and “I almost hit my little finger in the door, I SHOULDN’T BE ALIVE!”. Every day, people get in car accidents. Some lose a bumper or some paint, some lose much more. I was fortunate enough to experience the former, although only by inches.

With the temperatures slowly rising and the snow gradually starting to melt, we begin to get out on the road more. Even the most careful drivers may at some point find themselves in an accident, and knowing what to do after a car accident is crucial for saving time, effort, and money. With a little advice, you can get through a tough day with ease.
You’re probably thinking, if the roads are getting nicer, why worry about accidents now? Research has shown that more accidents occur when the weather is nice. During or after a heavy snowfall, people are more likely to avoid driving. Driving under adverse conditions, people tend to lower their speed and drive more cautiously. In nice weather, people can get distracted easier and may speed more. This can lead to more accidents. Accidents can happen anywhere at any time, so it’s good to be prepared.
Right now, the automotive world is buzzing with rumours of a possible Apple car. Apple certainly has the funds and the power to create a vehicle, but many people are dismissing the idea. Why? There is a wide range of products you didn’t know car companies made, stretching back hundreds of years.
